HP Smart Tank 530
The HP Smart Tank 530 (4SB24A) is a wireless all-in-one ink tank printer that prints, scans and copies. It uses refillable ink bottles instead of cartridges, so each refill lasts thousands of pages. It suits students, home offices and small businesses that print often and want low running costs.
Key Features & Benefits
- Refillable ink tank system: One black bottle prints up to about 6,000 pages, and a colour set up to about 8,000 pages. As a result, your cost per page stays far lower than with cartridge printers.
- 35-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF): Load a stack of pages to scan or copy without feeding each one by hand. This saves time when scanning contracts, invoices or assignments.
- Dual-band Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct: Connect on 2.4GHz or 5GHz networks for a more stable link. Additionally, Wi-Fi Direct lets phones print even without a router.
- HP Smart app with Smart Tasks: Print, scan and copy from your phone. Smart Tasks also create one-tap shortcuts, such as scanning straight to email or cloud storage.
- Spill-free, resealable ink bottles: The bottles fit only the matching tank, which helps prevent mix-ups. Meanwhile, the front-facing tanks show ink levels at a glance.

Use Cases & Applications
Students
The HP Smart Tank 530 handles assignments, research papers and project printing at a low cost per page. Students sharing a hostel or house can print from their own phones over Wi-Fi. Additionally, the scanner digitises notes and documents for submission.
Small businesses and offices
It suits small shops, agents and offices printing invoices, quotations and letters. The ADF speeds up scanning of receipts, IDs and contracts. However, its 1,000-page monthly duty cycle suits light to moderate office use, not heavy production.
Home offices and families
Print school homework, forms and photos from any phone in the house. Borderless printing also handles flyers and photo prints.
Cyber cafés and print shops (light use)
The low ink cost helps small print points. Still, for heavy daily volumes, consider a model with automatic duplex and a higher duty cycle.
Will It Work With Your Setup?
How many pages will one bottle print?
A GT53XL black bottle prints up to about 6,000 pages. A set of three GT52 colour bottles prints up to about 8,000 pages. Actual yields depend on what you print.
Does it print on both sides automatically?
No. Duplex printing is manual. The driver guides you to flip the pages and reload them.
Can I print from my phone?
Yes. Use the HP Smart app, Apple AirPrint on iPhone, or Mopria on Android. Wi-Fi Direct also works without a router.
Does it work with my laptop?
Yes, over Wi-Fi or USB. Drivers are available from HP’s support site for Windows and macOS. Note that a USB cable isn’t included.
Can I use non-HP ink?
HP recommends genuine HP ink bottles. Third-party ink can clog the print head, and HP’s warranty may not cover resulting damage.
Does it have fax or Ethernet?
No. It doesn’t include fax or a wired network (Ethernet) port.
Ink tank vs cartridge printer – which is better for me?
Ink tank printers cost more upfront but much less per page. If you print more than a few pages a week, the HP Smart Tank 530 usually costs less over time than a cartridge printer.
Important Notes
- Ink included in the box varies by region: Some regions ship 3 × GT53XL black bottles (HP’s “up to 18,000 black pages” claim). Others ship fewer. Confirm the Kenyan box contents before quoting total included pages.
- Google Cloud Print: Older spec sheets list it, but Google shut the service down in 2020. Don’t list it.
- Bluetooth: Some regional spec sheets list Bluetooth LE; HP’s main spec sheet doesn’t. Confirm before listing.
- USB cable not included: State this clearly to reduce support queries.
- Processor speed: Sources disagree (800 MHz vs 1.2 GHz). This listing omits it.
- Windows 11: Older spec sheets list Windows 10 and 7 only. Confirm current HP driver support before claiming Windows 11.
